The Lord Said to Noah
[Intro:]
Long ago in olden days
There was wickedness upon the land
There were too many sinners in the world,
So God came up with a plan….
[Verses:]
The Lord said to Noah
Gonna be a mighty flood
Get your animals two by two
You got to keep them out of the mud
The Lord said to Noah
There’ll be forty days of rain
So build you an ark out of wood and bark
Or you’ll never see dry land again
____So he gathered up the animals of every kind
____Got the sheep and the pigs and a couple of lions
____The bees and the birds all came along for the ride
Noah broke the news to his family
They worked both day and night
And by the time the storm had started to form
That boat was water tight.
[Intro, then instrumental break: verse melody]
The ark floated on the water
‘Bout seven months they say
Noah sent out a raven and a dove to see
If there was any dry land that day
Well, the dove came back empty-handed
It couldn’t find a single tree
But the very next week it found an olive leaf
And they knew they’d all soon be free
____He had gathered up the animals of every kind
____With the sheep and the goats and a couple of lions
____The bees and the birds all came along for the ride
Well the third time the dove just vanished
Noah knew the time was close at hand
So he parked the ark and said, “Everyone off!
It’s time to populate the land!”
[instrumental break: high ragtime part]
Oh well, the Lord showed old Noah
With a rainbow in the sky
Never again will a flood he send
To make so many people die
Well, that’s the story of Noah
He lived nine hundred and fifty years
And to this day we all celebrate
‘Cause he’s the reason that we’re all here!
Yes, he’s the reason that we’re all here!
